Aspirant, aide held for cheating in constable recruitment exam

MUMBAI: The DB Mmarg police have arrested a 28- year- old man who was allegedly trying to copy answers through a mobile messaging application, with the help of his aide, during a written examination held in the city on Saturday for recruiting police constables in Maharashtra police department on Saturday.
The incident occur red around noon when the written examination was going on in Marwari Vidyalaya High School at SVP Road, Charni Road (East).
About 24 aspiring candidates were seated in a class room for the exam.
The arrested accused (name withheld by the police) had come for the written test after clearing the physical test. Despite multiple warnings to all aspirants to avoid cheating and carrying cell phones, the accused sneaked in his with his mobile phone into the exam hall.
On getting t he question paper, he clicked a photograph of the paper on his mobile phone and sent it across to his friend on a mobile messaging application.
According to the police, the accused was planning on getting the answers to the questions in the paper through the app and answering the questions.
But before he could receive any answers, the examiner caught him and he was handed over to the police.
His aide was arrested from Santa Cruz for allegedly being part of the plan and trying to help him cheat during t he examination.
A FIR has been registered against both accused under sections 5 (supply, distribute or cause to supply copy of any question paper) and 8 (abetment of offence under this act) of the Maharashtra Prevention of Malpractices at University, Board and Other Specified Examinations Act, 1982.
They were produced before a magistrate’ s court and remanded to police custody for a day.
