BMC to link Versova and Madh Island

The fishing community in the city will soon have their long-standing demand see the light of day with the civic body planning to connect Madh Island with Versova by building a bridge over the creek.

Standing committee chairman Rahul Shewale said there was earlier a proposal to build a skywalk along the 1 km stretch. “As it’s a long stretch and people certainly wouldn’t be walking that long, we decided to have a bridge instead,” Shewale said.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has already appointed Structcon Consultants as structural consultants and is studying whether the bridge could also be included in the coastal ring road plan for the city. The BMC had estimated a budget of Rs42 crore for the skywalk. The estimate for the bridge is yet to be determined. The BMC will need clearance from the environmental department amongst other permissions.
