Of the 3,905 buses scheduled daily, BEST is going to run only 1,900 buses after 2.30pm on September 26. Even air-conditioned buses will be stopped after 1pm.

"Because of the Ganesh immersion processions, the traffic police have planned to keep many roads closed in the city and suburbs. Also, fewer commuters travel in buses that day, which is why we have decided to curtail some scheduled services," said Manoj Varade, assistant PRO of BEST undertaking.

"We curtail services every year to avoid working losses," said a BEST official.

The BEST undertaking has a fleet of 4,600 buses including 284 air-conditioned buses.
