The Shivaji Nagar police said, at the time of the incident Yogesh Gogre’s (17) father was on his way back from work, his mother had gone out for pravachan (religious speech) and his sister had gone to tuition class while his youngest brother was out with his friends.

The police said Yogesh, studying science, was a topper from his school in the SSC board exam. “While leaving, Yogesh’s mother asked him to come along but he said he had to study," said a police officer.

At 8 pm his mother and father returned home and knocked on the door. On getting no response they peeped through a small gap in the door and saw him hanging.

His father Netaji, a bank employee, told the police, "On seeing him hanging my wife and I rushed to the back of the house and entered through the kitchen. But I could not save my son's life."

The boy was a bright student and the exact cause is unclear. “We found a suicide note. He had written, “He is taking the extreme step of killing himself and no one should be held responsible”.

“We found that the boy was depressed and we are verifying whether he had any problem at his college or was depressed over his studies," said Dilip Sawant deputy commissioner of police (Zone VI).
