Delhi Art Gallery comes to Mumbai

The three-storey Sheth House, situated adjacent to craft gallery Artisans’ and opposite the Jehangir Art Gallery, had housed a communications centre, but was lying vacant for the past two years. However, work to renovate the gallery has begun a week ago.

A representative from the marketing department of Delhi Art Gallery, requesting anonymity, said that the space is likely to be opened in July.

In the past, Delhi Art Gallery, a privately run space owned by gallerist Ashish Anand, has held its second and third annual shows, titled Manifestations, in Mumbai, at the Jehangir Art Gallery and Nehru Centre, in 2004 and 2005 respectively.

In Delhi, the gallery is spread over two spaces and houses a collection of 20,000 paintings, sculptures and prints by Indian modernists and contemporary artists.

The gallery represents celebrated artists, namely Amit Ambalal, Sadanandji Bakre, Prabhakar Barwe and Manjit Bawa.
