According to the Dongri police, the hands, legs and head of the victim, who is believed to be in his 20s, were chopped off and the body parts are yet to be found.

The incident came to light when the employees of the railway laundry went to a metal shed for lunch. When they noticed a foul stench emanating from a corroded metal tank, they went to investigate and discovered the torso.

The police suspect the man was killed somewhere else and the body was dumped in the tank. “Preliminary medical reports found that the victim’s ribs were broken, which suggests that he might have been brutally assaulted. We are probing the case,” said VB Mukane, senior inspector of Dongri police station.

The Dongri police have registered a case of murder and are trying to find if any missing person’s complaint had been filed recently.

Police said the body was decomposed and might have been dumped at the railway yard at least three days ago.
