Four persons were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly murdering a 30-year-old woman.
Shabana Khan had allegedly been strangulated at her Shivaji Nagar residence on Sunday night by four people which included two relatives, who were not happy with her remarriage plans, said police inspector B Pardesi from Shivaji Nagar police station.
The police had initially registered an accidental death report.
Later a murder case was filed after the accused confessed to the crime, the police said.
According to the police, Shabana had separated from her husband a few years back and was staying with her 10-year-old daughter and nine-year-old son.
Pardesi said, “Shabana was planning to remarry but her two cousins, Maqsood Baig alias Vicky, 24, and Mohammad Amir Khan, 18, disapproved her alliance. The accused had a verbal tiff with Shabana and her husband-to-be Ali on Sunday. After the heated argument, Shabana returned to her Govandi residence. The duo along with Mohammad Moid Khan, 18, and Akhtar Ali, 20, went to her Lotus society residence and strangulated her.”
The officer added that the accused escaped after committing the crime, but Shabana’s 10-year-old daughter saw them leave.
This helped the police nab the accused, who after sustained interrogation confessed to the murder, Pardesi said.
