Con artists are now using the name of the income-tax (IT) department to extract people’s credit card details and cheat them. Before this, they sent emails in the name of banks to get these details and clean out their accounts. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), which controls the IT department across the country, in a statement issued on Tuesday, cautioned taxpayers not to give out any details of their credit cards to claim tax refunds.

Shishir Jha, CBDT spokesperson, said in the statement that the department has information that the e-mails are being sent from lhxbkw@accounts.net or cvhfvs@accounts.net. The department It cautions taxpayers to not respond to such mails, warning that if they do, it is at their own risk.
