Currently, Congress rules the 81-member Nanded civic corporation. The polls scheduled on October 14 will also offer Chavan an opportunity to lift his sagging position in the party.

The polls were announced Monday. Soon after that, State Congress in-charge Mohan Prakash and state Congress chief Manikrao Thakre decided to travel to Nanded to kick off the campaign on Tuesday.

Chavan and his supporters from Marathwada will share the dais with them. CM Prithviraj Chavan is expected to tour the city in October. HTC
