The police said jeweller Bharat Dhing (34) was shot dead by the accused, Sikander, when he was returning home after shutting down his shop in Ghatkopar. Dhing was on his motorcycle with one of his employees.

The police said Sikander and his accomplice had planned the murder two days prior to the incident. They wanted to rob Dhing as they knew that he carried home cash and diamonds. But on that day, Sikander was unable to rob Dhing as people gathered soon after hearing the gunshot.

The police said Sikander, who used to work at a leather workshop factory, does not have a criminal record.
