The police said Hanuvant was employed at a jewellery shop in Bhuleshwar owned by Manish Jain. On August 16, 2011, Jain had given Hanuvant 9.5kg gold to be delivered to a buyer in Kerala.

The police said Hanuvant boarded a train from Panvel with the gold ornaments and alighted at Kannur. He then approached the police and told them that the gold had been stolen and informed Jain about the robbery. From Kannur he went to his hometown in Rajasthan.

The police suspected Hanuvant’s involvement. After watching his movements for several days, he was arrested in December. “We have recovered 2 kg gold from him. During interrogation, Hanuvant admitted that his cousin was also involved. Kesar has been remanded to police custody till January 13,” said Rajendra Chavan, senior police inspector.
