"As per the directions from party president Raj Thackeray, we announce that Maharashtra Navnirman Sena will not participate in the Bharat bandh on September 20," a press statement issued in Mumbai said.

The party, however, did not assign any reason for its decision to not participate in the strike.

BJP-led NDA and UPA ally Samajwadi Party, along with a number of other non-UPA parties, have separately announced the bandh in protest against the hike in diesel price and FDI in multi-brand retail.
