The luxury bus coming from Satara rammed into two stationary cars and fell into a 20 feet ditch near Shivkar village, 13 kms from Panvel city on Sunday.

Amarjeet Singh, a businessman from Kandivli, was returning from Shani Shinganapur with his family in the Swift. The car stopped in lane number one after a tyre puncture and the bus crashed into it.

“The Swift driver made no effort to take the car off the highway after it developed technical problems. We will register a case of negligence against its driver,” said Vishwash Pandhare, deputy commissioner of police (zone II).

Forty-seven people were injured in the accident. Out of them, 22 are still under surveillance in five hospitals. Two people admitted to MGM Hospital in Kamothe are critical, the police said.

“One of the injured admitted to Panacea hospital underwent a brain surgery. Two other patients at another hospital also had to undergo surgeries,” said Sunil Bajare, senior police inspector of Panvel city police station.
