Locals in the Buddhachaya Nagar area in Vikhroli (East) had threatened to take to the streets after the toddler drowned in the pit dug by civic officials after they demolished slums in the area.
Also, a slum dweller displaced due to the demolition drive had attempted suicide on Sunday afternoon that further enraged the locals.
DCP (zone 7) Sanjay Shintre said, “Following a complaint by the family of the boy who drowned, a case was registered against Deshmukh and Davbhat.”
Locals from the Buddhachaya Nagar alleged that the demolition of their slums – that took place on November 17 - was undertaken at the behest of the suburban collector and deputy suburban collector. The demolition, they alleged, had made the stretch of land risky. After the demolition, civic officials dug several pits in the area, and he boy drowned in one of them.
