The burglary is suspected to have taken place between 10pm on Thursday and 11am on Friday, when the shop was closed. The robbers made a hole in the back wall of the shop, where the jewellery worshop was located, and entered the property.

Speaking to HT, Naresh Vaidya, the owner of the jewellery shop, said, “I opened the shop at 11am on Friday as usual. As soon as I opened the shutter, I saw the entire shop ransacked and empty jewellery boxes lying on the floor.”

“When I rushed inside the workshop to inspect, jewellery kept for polishing was also missing. I then saw a big hole in the wall that opens into an empty compound outside,” he said. Since other shops in the vicinity also close down by 10 pm everyday, no one heard the burglars making the hole, said the police.

“We recovered fingerprints from the shop and are awaiting the analysis report,” said sub-inspector Vishwajeet Jagtap from Jogeshwari police station.
