According to the girl’s statement to the police, Dhwanil and she had met at a Dahisar-based Singapore International School where the duo graduated from in 2009. They got into a relationship in late 2009 and terminated it in mid-2011.

“He said that his family would not accept anything more than friendship between us since we belonged to different castes, following which we ended our relationship around a year ago,” the girl said in her statement.

However, after they ended the relationship, they met for the first time at their friend’s Peddar Road apartment to watch the Euro 2012 Group match on late Saturday night. “Around 2am on Sunday, we went to the kitchen and spoke for about half an hour. He asked me if I still loved and respected him and if I was in a relationship with someone else. I said that I was not dating anyone and that we would always be friends,” she told the police.

“Everybody was having a good time, but Dhwanil was sitting alone on a couch, smoking. We asked him to join us, but he refused. He was feeling giddy and was vomiting as well,” one of his friends said.

Around two hours after the conversation with her, Dhwanil jumped off the apartment.
