Six cases of women being robbed in city over 24 hours

Six cases of robbery in which women were targeted were reported in the western suburbs within a span of 24-hours between Wednesday and Thursday.

Six cases of robbery in which women were targeted were reported in the western suburbs within a span of 24-hours between Wednesday and Thursday. Four persons have been arrested in two cases while the accused in the other four remain undetected.

In the first incident that occurred at around 1.45am at Sivodi junction at Malad (East), a 23-year-old singer, Geeta Shelke was travelling in an autorickshaw when three men on a two-wheeler threatened the driver with a knife and fled with cash, two cellphones, which amounted to Rs 12,500 along with a PAN card and some documents. The trio was arrested at Marve road and the stolen items were recovered.

The second incident took place close to Khar railway station at around 6.15am. Two bike-borne men snatched 45-year-old Shubhangi Warang's gold-chain worth Rs20,000. The Khar police arrested one of the accused, Aalim Shaikh, 20.

Two other incidents were at Vile Parle and Borivli. In the fifth incident, Kusum Gaouda, 35, was robbed of her gold chain-worth Rs 1,80,000 in Versova while Sunanda Nangaonkar, 53, also lost her gold mangalsutra to chain-snatchers on Wednesday.
