The bus hit the divider at Everard Nagar, near Chunnabhati. Though commuters and pedestrians were not hurt, the driver died on his way to the hospital.

52-year-old Chandrakant Bodke was driving the ST stand at Swargate Depot in Pune to Mumbai. Bodke comes from the same depot as 41-year-old Santosh Mane, who in January had unexpectedly gone on a rampage, running over nine unsuspecting pedestrians.

After the Mane incident, MSRTC had set up a 12-member committee, to study drivers’ stress level, working conditions, their mental agony and its effect on their performance.

MSRTC spokesman Mukund Dhus said, “The committee set up to study drivers stress level, working conditions, their mental agony and its effect on their performance will submit the report till March 10 only then conclusions can be made. In this case, I will be able to get details of incident only by Monday.”
