According to the police, the incident occurred at Friday midnight in the two additional rooms allotted to constables S. Wankhede and Madhukar Shirsagar.

The rooms, which were on the ground-floor and third-floor, were used as storerooms.

“The incident was discovered around 5.30 am when the families of the two constables returned after fetching water from outside,” said senior inspector Sanjeev Kokil.

“The locks of the two rooms were broken and the rooms were ransacked,” he added.

The police said the stolen items included mobiles, gold jewellery and watches.

“Normally, a constable is given a room to live in. But if his family lives with him, he gets an additional room. The personnel often use the additional room sanctioned to store their belongings. The break-ins

happened in two such attached rooms which had belongings of the constables,” added Kokil.

The police have registered a case of theft.

“We suspect the robbers may have kept a watch for a few days as they knew which rooms to break into,” said Kokil.
