The authorities will run only 12-coach trains on these days, when the number of services is less as compared to weekdays.

This system will be implemented from October 25, once the CR completes the traction conversion from 1,500-volt DC to 25,000-volt AC between Kalyan and Vangni on October 24.

The authorities usually run 30% lesser services on Sundays and government holidays because major maintenance work is carried out through mega blocks. “We will be able to increase services on Sundays and holidays. People commuting towards the north from Kalyan can save around six minutes of travel time,” said MC Chauhan, divisional railway manager, CR.

The CR runs 1,240 train services on Sundays, of which 594 services run on the main line, 438 on the Harbour line and 208 on the Trans Harbour line. But the schedule will change after the number of 12-coach and 9-coach train services are modified after October 24. The number of 12-coach will increase from 491 to 541 services on Sundays.
