Two youngsters feared drowned off Juhu beach, 3 saved

A group of five, all residents of Juhu Koliwada area, went to the beach at around 12:30 pm for a swim, an official from Santa Cruz police station said.

Two feared drowned, after a group of friends went for a swim in Juhu beach in Mumbai, the police said.

A group of five, all residents of Juhu Koliwada area, went to the beach at around 12:30 pm for a swim, an official from Santa Cruz police station said.

Lifeguards and fire brigade personnel warned them against entering the sea, chief fire officer Prabhat Rahangadale said.

The youngsters, however, went to a different spot away from the main beach and ventured into the sea. They started drowning soon, he said.

Three of them were rescued by lifeguards, while there was no trace of two others, Rahangadale said.

According to police, those feared drowned were identified as Rajendra Chowdhury (20) and Sameer Sheikh (18).
