While the city is still reverberating from Tiesto’s electro dance beats, the two self-confessed ‘music decorators’ DJs Ravin and Carlos Campos, who recently played in Buddha Bar, further turned the Capital into a mini EDM hot spot.
In India for the first time, DJ Carlos Campos is no stranger to the desi bent to eat, breathe and sleep Bollywood. Ask him if he has been India-inspired for his mixes and he rattles off a long list of his compositions with desi influence.
“Indian music is really beautiful and touches my heart. I have composed tracks fused with Indian music and I love Bollywood dance music,” says the Chilean DJ, who shot to fame with his interpretation of Lorca’s hit, Ritmo De La Noche.
The duo is also unequivocal about wanting to collaborate with singer and composer AR Rahman.
“I am also in awe of Lata Mangeshkar, Rahat Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Krishnakumar Kunnath and Bally Sagoo,” adds Campos, while DJ Ravin shares deets on his global music influences and upcoming collaborations. “From India to China and from Greece to Turkey, I like to meet artists in different countries and record them live. I also hope to work with Hamza and Vipul from Wind Horse records or Midival Punditz,” he says.
With the city youth readily lending an ear to music genres from different shores, the electronic dance music has become a rage. The EDM stars of the eighties with producers like Giorgio Moroder and the old school era of Studio 54, and later the The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim etc have since evolved into sounds more powerful and sophisticated. And as Carlos succinctly states about this genre, “it makes you feel like life is a beach and a sunny mixture of Latin, House, and electro music on the side.”
