Fans are doing the needful: Baba Sehgal

Baba Sehgal undeterred by unflattering comments on social networking sites, says it’s an achievement to get 11,000 hits in two days without any publicity, reports Priyanka Jain.

Made on a shoe string budget of Rs 10,000, Baba Sehgal’s latest rap Praji Kunjam Kunjam... has been trending on Twitter, attracting fans on Facebook and many hits on YouTube. The song was apparently made to support the cause of saving the girl child.



As the Aaja Meri Gaadi Mein Baith Jaa... singer puts it, "The world and its grandmother, including CNN, has been tweeting about it." But is he aware that many of the comments have been extremely nasty? Baba retorts, "It’s a good sign. People are reacting to it. Whether it’s good or bad, it’s nice the song is getting attention. I made it for the Internet — a medium I am trying to understand. There is a different audience there who may not have heard my earlier songs."



The rapper insists that he’d like to concentrate on the good things being said and is amused by Twitter wars going on between his supporters and others who hated the song. He says, "I don’t even have to react to people who don’t like the single. My fans are doing the needful. If some people want to be negative, let them go ahead. I don’t have to worry."



He adds, "Massive amounts of money must have been put in the publicity of a song like Chikni Chameli... I didn’t spend anything and yet I am getting noticed more. Why should I complain?"

The singer, who has been active all this while in Tamil films and has sung title songs for their versions of Singham (2011) and Dabbang (2010) among others, says, "I don’t miss Bollywood, but I’ll be doing some Hindi projects as well, besides continuing to make indie singles..."
