Ghazal fans in the city are in for a treat. Ghazal maestro Ghulam Ali will perform at a concert in Mumbai on June 8. The venue for the concert is Shanmukhananda Hall at Matunga. Some of the proceeds from the show will aid the Cancer Patients Patients’ Aid Association (CPAA) and, more specifically, help in the treatment of three-year old blood cancer patient Sameer. Tickets for this three-hour concert range from Rs 700 to Rs 3,000, and Rs 100 from every ticket would be donated for Sameer’s treatment.

“Our aim is to get as many people as possible for the show. We are targetting at least Rs 3 lakh,” says Randhir Ranjan Roy from Panache Media, the organisers of the event.

Ghazal singer Jagjit Singh, who passed away in October last year, was known for his charity concerts. Ghulam Ali has also been associated with many charity shows in the past.

“Jagjitji used to do many charity shows which he would never publicise. After his demise, there has been a huge void which needed to be filled. We thought of Ghulam Ali sahab since he is one of the greatest ghazal singers and has done many charity concerts earlier,” says Roy.

All the performers at the concert will dress in outfits by designer Riyaz Gangji, which have been designed for free. “My father used to listen to Ghulam Ali a lot. I’ve always been his fan and it’s an honour to dress the maestro,” says Riyaz.

Randhir Ranjan Roy will also launch the website

next month. This will be an informative website for all future charity concerts.
