If

Silsila

’s

Rang Barse

had Amitabh Bachchan playing around with Rekha, garam Dharam could be seen wooing Hema Malini in

Holi Ke Din

from

Sholay

. The treatment of almost all songs has been the same —

gulaal, zor-zabardasti

and white saris, they’re all there. If Juhi Chawla and Sunny Deol got cheeky with

Ang Se Ang Lagana

in

Darr

, Akshay Kumar pleaded with Priyanka Chopra in Do Me a Favour… Let’s Play Holi from

Waqt

. Even classics such as

Holi Aayi Re Kanhayee (Mother India)

and

Aaj Na Chodenge (Kati Patang)

boasted gaiety and naughtiness.

But with cinema getting ‘real’, fimmakers’ love for the ‘Holi brand of music’ has taken a beating, the only exception being a song written by lyricist Irshad Kamil for the upcoming Aishwarya Rai-starrer

Action Replay

. Let’s see if

bahurani

can recreate her

Paa’s

magic.
