Selena Gomez reveals she underwent a kidney transplant, organ donated by actor friend

Selena Gomez shocked her fans by revealing she underwent a kidney transplant in summer.

Singer Selena Gomez made a shocking revelation on Thursday when she told her fans of the real reason behind not making public appearances through the summer. In an Instagram post, she said she underwent a kidney transplant due to her struggle with lupus.

Selena, 25, said the transplant was why she didn’t promote her new music at all. She even cut short her tour last year due to the disease. “I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of. So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health,” she wrote in the post.

The singer then thanked her actor friend Francia Raisa who donated her kidney to her. “And finally, there aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis,” she wrote.

In the photos, Selena can be seen on a hospital bed, holding Francia’s hand with breathing tubes in their noses. She also posted pictures of her scar after the surgery and the bump on her waist due to the surgery.

Selena revealed in 2015 for the first time how she had to undergo chemotherapy for the chronic inflammatory disease in 2013.

Her latest song, Fetish, was well received by the fans. She will soon be seen in a Woody Allen film.
