Car hits man, travels 3km with body on roof

HYDERABAD: A speeding car hit a person crossing the road and travelled for three kilometres with his body on its roof before it was stopped by locals at Jadecherla in Mahbubnagar district on the Hyderabad-Bengaluru national highway on Monday night.
According to Jadcherla sub-inspector of police Madhusudhan Goud, 35-year-old Srinivasulu, a labourer from Nimmagaddabavi village, was crossing the road near the new bus stand at around 10pm, when a speeding Chevrolet car coming from Kurnool hit him.
The impact of the accident was so intense that the man was flung in the air and landed on the roof of the car.
However, instead of stopping the car, the driver tried to escape by increasing the speed, not realising that the body was lying on the roof of the vehicle.
“A couple of local youth who were passing by on their motorbike alerted the police of the highway patrolling squad and chased the car for about three kilometres. They managed to bring the car to a halt at Macharam village on the highway,” Goud told HT.
“Even before the locals approached the vehicle, the driver fled the spot (on foot) and disappeared in the darkness.” Police has identified the owner of the car.
