NEW DELHI: Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha, M Thambidurai, was unusually active in the Chair when the Lok Sabha debated the bill to amend the National Institutes of Technology, Science Education and Research Act, 2007. Higher education “also needs more funding” he told new HRD minister Prakash Javadekar. Then, while BJD’s Baijayant Jay Panda raised the issue of shortage of teachers, Thambidurai said, “The shortage is often due to teachers remaining on leave or taking up other assignments abroad.”
