Gone in 45 minutes: Gang of 10 loot three trains in Kanpur
KANPUR: A group of 10 heavily armed men looted and injured passengers and molested women in three trains within 45 minutes on Kanpur and Unnao sidings early Wednesday
KANPUR: A group of 10 heavily armed men looted and injured passengers and molested women in three trains within 45 minutes on Kanpur and Unnao sidings early Wednesday morning.
The gang first struck the Lokmanya Tilak Express waiting for a signal near Murray Company flyover in Kanpur outer. The group entered a general coach, quickly covered the exits, and looted passengers at gun-point.
Women passengers were molested and the valuables worn by them were snatched.
Ram Shanker, who suffered stab wounds, said criminals placed knives on the necks of women and children.
The criminals then quickly boarded the Vaishali Express, which was stationed after the Lokmanya Tilak Express, where they looted about 30 passengers, mostly women, in 10 minutes.
The group then headed towards the Ganga Bridge and looted the Kanpur-Lucknow passenger train.
IG Railways, LK Antony, said the Government Railway Police (GRP) Kanpur, which initially tried to cover up the case, will investigate the matter.
A separate inquiry would also be conducted into the complaints that the GRP didn’t act when passengers passed the information through the guard.
Angry passengers even resorted to protest at the railway station after receiving no police response.
At Kanpur Central station, when the SOS to GRP went unheeded, the passengers pulled the chain, demanding medical attention to the injured and arrest of the criminals.
SHO GRP Shyamvrat told passengers the place they were robbed at didn’t fall in his area but that of civil police. The station master reached the station at 3am and moved the injured to the hospital.
