Rs 2 crore, gold, tiger skin seized from Assam forest officer’s house
GUWAHATI: The anti-corruption wing of Assam police on Tuesday recovered Rs 2 crore in cash, about 1 kg gold jewellery, tiger skin, deer skin and ivory besides documents of fixed deposits certificates from the residence of Mahat Chandra Talukdar, the divisional forest officer ( DFO) of Dhemaji division in northern Assam.
Talukdar was caught red-handed while accepting bribes of Rs 30,000 each from three sand truck owners last Monday.
The DFO was taken to Guwahati on Tuesday and the sleuths raided his house at Geetanagar area in the city.
“The raid was carried out by the anti-corruption wing of Assam police and till now over Rs 2 crore have been recovered. The sleuths also recovered parts of wildlife animals from Dhemaji DFO’s residence,” said Bhaskar Deb Konwar, cousin of Mahat Chandra Talukdar.
Police was yet to open two more lockers at Talukdar’s house in Guwahati.
The DFO was produced at special session court, Kamrup Metro, on Tuesday evening, which remanded him in the custody of anti-corruption cell for one day. Police had sought his three days custody. A raid was also carried out at the DFO’s father’s house in Nalbari.
