LUCKNOW: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) launched a signature campaign on Friday from mosques in the Uttar Pradesh capital against the Narendra Modi government’s stand on triple talaq in the Supreme Court. A proforma was distributed in mosques after Friday prayers carrying a note in Urdu and English that said Muslim women were satisfied with the Islamic Sharia law and did not want any change in it.
TAKE ALL STAKEHOLDERS INTO CONFIDENCE, SAYS CONGRESS
NEW DELHI: The Congress on Friday said the Uniform Civil Code should be not be imposed without taking all the stakeholders into confidence and maintained that the matter of ‘triple talaq’ be left to the Supreme Court to decide. Congress spokesperson Shobha Oza quoted Babasaheb BR Ambedkar to drive home the point that all stakeholders needed to be taken into confidence for any change. “It is not proper if this does not happen,” she said.
READ THE QURAN, URGES MUSLIM WOMEN LAW BOARD
LUCKNOW: Founder president of the All India Muslim Women Personal Law Board Shaista Amber on Friday urged Muslim women to read the Quran to dispel all misconceptions spread by ulemas over triple talaq and demanded registration of nikahnama in court on lines of Hindu marriages. Amber rejected the proforma distributed by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board seeking signature of Muslim men and women against the Centre’s stand on triple talaq.
SP, BSP TREAD CAUTIOUSLY ON TRIPLE TALAQ ISSUE
LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav on Friday did not speak much on the triple talaq issue. He only said there should be no politics on the Uniform Civil Code or triple talaq, and people should be free to follow any religion. Meanwhile, Bahujan Samaj Party general secretary Naseemuddin Siddiqui at a press meet said party president Mayawati would discuss the matter with senior party leaders before she issued a statement.
