Railway officials track down Dhaka-gifted bag

GUWAHATI: Railway officials helped retrieve a backpack gifted in Dhaka, Bangladesh, borrowed in Agartala, Tripura, destined for Darjeeling, West Bengal and lost in Guwahati, Assam.
Bank employee Sahan Chakraborty, 26, had boarded the 15640 Guwahati-Puri Express that left Guwahati Railway Station at 6:35pm on Sunday. He had arrived by flight from Agartala with other members of his family earlier in the day.
Their destination was West Bengal’s New Jalpaiguri, from where they would travel to Darjeeling.
Less than an hour after the train left the station, Chakraborty realised he had left a black backpack at an eatery near the station. More than the content, the backpack had a sentimental value – it was gifted to his uncle, a senior Agartala citizen, by Dhaka’s Jatiya Press Club as a token of Bangladesh’s friendship with Tripura since the Liberation War of 1971.
Chakraborty called up his relatives in Agartala, who managed to get through to a railway officer at Northeast Frontier Railway’s (NFR) headquarters via a contact in Guwahati.
“We received information more than 90 minutes after the bag was lost. We hoped against hope to locate the bag, but our team found the bag,” deputy station superintendent M Mudiar, 55, told Hindustan Times.
