The underpass near Model Town will prove to be a boon for commuters using the stretch for travelling to and from Ghaziabad and Delhi. It will make the T-point at Model Town signal-free.

The underpass has four loops, with two lanes each, to facilitate movement of vehicles in four directions. Two loops will be on the Noida side and two on the Ghaziabad side. The loops on the Ghaziabad side will be the main stretch of the underpass. The loops on the Noida side will be used for vehicles coming from NH-24 to Noida and for the vehicles going from Noida to NH-24.

PK Garg, project engineer of Noida authority, told HT that the underpass is almost ready and may be opened for traffic by October-end.

“No major work remains. We hope the minor work will be finished in the next three weeks and then finishing touches will be given in another two weeks,” said Garg.

The underpass will benefit commuters crossing NH 24 while coming from Delhi and Ghaziabad and vice versa. At present, hundreds of autos and unregulated traffic signals lead to chaos every day.

The commuters coming from Delhi can use a loop of the underpass to cross NH-24. The commuters wanting to go towards Shipra Mall, can use another loop of the underpass.

According to a senior traffic police official, the underpass and loops will benefit over 1,00,000 commuters who struggle to cross NH-24 every day.

“It will ease traffic congestion in Noida sectors 62 and 63 and Ghaziabad’s Indirapuram area,” said a traffic police official.

The underpass has come as a huge relief for the commuters.

Manish Soni of Indirapuram said, “My office is in Sector 62 and I live in Shipra Sun City, Ghaziabad, which is 2 km away. It takes me 40 minutes to reach my workplace from home. This is one of the most chaotic junctions of the NCR. We must appreciate the authorities of the two cities for constructing the underpass with loops.”
