A gang of robbers involved in interstate car thefts was arrested by the Noida police on Monday. Three persons who were involved in selling stolen vehicles to various states, including Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Haryana were arrested.
The accused, identified as Nisar Pathan, Yusuf Mohammad and Sohail Akram, are natives of Indore, MP and have been booked under section 392 (robbery) of Indian Penal Code. “We suspects the accused themselves were also into robbing and stealing the vehicles and we are trying to find cases against them,” a police official said.
Police arrested the trio from the zero point on Greater Noida Expressway. Police said they got information that the accused were leaving to sell a stolen car from Rabupura.
On the information provided by the accused, police recovered one Maruti Swift Dzire and a Renault Duster. Police is now getting in touch with various states to find out if there are car theft cases registered against the trio.
The accused were working in association with people involved in car thefts and used to sell stolen cars by changing engine numbers of the vehicle. They used to buy 100 % damaged and scrapped cars and then used the engine numbers of those vehicles to sell stolen cars.
“We will try to nab people who were providing stolen vehicles to sell. We have also started getting in touch with other states to prepare solid case against the accused,” said Akhilesh Tripathi, Station House Officer, Knowledge Park, Greater Noida.
Police is trying to crack a whip on gangs responsible for vehicle theft in Gautam Budh Nagar where car theft has been a long time problem.
