1800 entries received for badminton tourney

Badminton ace Saina Nehwal's achievements seems to have had its effect on the 10th United India Insurance RSC All India Junior Ranking Badminton Shuttle Tournament in which over 1800 entries have been registered with two more days left for the tourney.

Badminton ace Saina Nehwal's achievements seems to have had its effect on the 10th United India Insurance RSC All India Junior Ranking Badminton Shuttle Tournament in which over 1800 entries have been registered with two more days left for the tourney.

The tournament for both girls and boys, with prize money of Rs three lakh, is scheduled to be held here from July 1 to 6, Secretary of the Regional Sports Centre (RSC) Sunil K Mathai told newsmen here.

In the last edition 1200 entries were received, he said.

Nehwal's superb performance at the international level, wherein she had won three international titles in three weeks, had influenced the budding youngsters, he said.

Events will be held in under-19, under-16 and under-13 categories in singles, doubles and mixed doubles. Prominent international and national junior players from across the country are expected in the tourney, he said.

The matches will be played in 13 wooden courts simultaneously at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium, he said.
