Badminton: Hidayat to face Hashim in Indian Open final

Indonesian favourite Taufik Hidayat booked his place in the Indian Open final on Saturday with a 21-13 21-11 victory over compatriot Tommy Sugiarto.

Indonesian favourite Taufik Hidayat booked his place in the Indian Open final on Saturday with a 21-13 21-11 victory over compatriot Tommy Sugiarto.

The 27-year-old Athens Olympic champion will take on former All-England winner Muhammad Hafiz Hashim in Sunday's final after the Malaysian ended the fine run of Chinese teenager Chen Long.

Chen, 19, shock first-round winner over Malaysian world number one Lee Chong Wei, fought back before the 10th seeded Hashim won the second semi-final 21-18 19-21 21-15.

French world number four Pi Hongyan will meet Malaysian fifth seed Julia Pei Xian Wong in the women's final on Sunday.

Hongyan defeated Japanese sixth seed Yu Hirayama 21-7 21-14 while Julia, who upset second seed Saina Nehwal of India on Friday, overcame Beiwen Zhang of Singapore 19-21 21-13 21-15.
