Mumbai rain LIVE: In view of heavy rainfall in Mumbai, the schools and colleges will remain shut on Tuesday.

Monsoon in India LIVE: The southwest monsoon brought much-needed relief from the lingering heat across several parts of the country but also left in its wake a trail of death and disruption on Thursday, with at least six people killed in rain-related incidents in Himachal Pradesh and Maharashtra.

Heavy showers triggered flash floods, landslides, traffic disruptions and weather alerts across several states.

Three persons were killed in separate rain-related accidents in Shimla and Chamba districts, while one death was reported in Mandi district, according to State Emergency Operations Centre data.

A bus conductor named Gyan Chand, a resident of Mandi district, was killed in the Udaipur area of Lahaul and Spiti district after falling stones from a hillside hit him.

, according to the State Emergency Operations Centre.

Heavy rainfall also triggered flash floods in Chamba district, washing away a temporary wooden bridge near a temple in the Bharmour subdivision and leaving around 30 pilgrims stranded, officials said.

The Shimla Meteorological Centre has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places across the state from July 2 to 5, except on July 3.

Mumbai rain LIVE: Mumbai witnessed very heavy rains on Monday, which eased a bit from afternoon, though gusty winds triggered treefalls, officials said.

Till Monday evening, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation had received 291 complaints of trees getting uprooted and branches falling amid heavy rains and winds, they added.

As per the BMC monsoon report, between 8 am and 6 pm, the city received an average of 28.2 millimetres rainfall, while the eastern and western suburbs recorded 61.75 mm and 65.45 mm, respectively.

"BMC received 291 complaints of tree and branch falls till 6 pm, comprising 74 in the city, 78 in the eastern suburbs and 139 in the western suburbs. Civic teams were deployed to clear the fallen trees and branches, and no injuries were reported," an official said.

A total of 22 incidents of partial house or wall collapses and 12 cases of short circuits were reported, though no one was hurt in these, he added.

In a release issued on Monday evening, the civic body said Mumbai had received 300 mm of rainfall in the city, 380 mm in the eastern suburbs and 345 mm in the western suburbs over the previous 48 hours.

It said teams had been deployed across the metropolis to respond to incidents of fallen trees and branches, short circuits, partial or complete building collapses and other rain-related emergencies.

High-capacity pumping stations, dewatering systems and additional manpower were pressed into service to clear waterlogged areas, while rescue equipment and other resources were kept on standby, officials said.

Pune rain LIVE: Pune witnessed heavy rains on Monday, triggering landslides, one of which killed three persons of a family, and disruption to road and rail traffic, prompting operations that saw 30 people being rescued and more than 270 shifted to safety, officials said.

According to the district administration, 27 revenue circles received more than 65 mm of rainfall, with Maval recording the highest precipitation of 237.3 mm.

Three members of a family were killed after their house was buried under a landslide at Patan village in Maval in the early hours of Monday.

In Maval itself, the fire brigade rescued 30 employees stranded in a company bus in the Talegaon area, while 250 residents of Taje village were shifted to safer locations as a precaution, officials said.

All efforts to clear landslides on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway near the Missing Link section and on the Lonavala-Karjat railway route were underway in order to restore the routes for traffic, officials said.

Mumbai rain LIVE: A work from home (WFH) advisory has been issued for all private offices, while non-essential government offices have been ordered to observe a half-day in Mumbai by the Maharashtra state disaster management authority (SDMA) on Monday amid heavy rains in the region.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued a 'red' alert for Mumbai, Thane and Raigad districts, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall along with strong winds. It also advised people to avoid unnecessary travel. Follow live updates related to Mumbai rains here.

WFH for private employees in Mumbai

In an advisory issued by the SDMA on X, the authority asked private establishments to allow its employees to work from home wherever feasible.

Meanwhile, government and semi-government employees, except those engaged in essential services, were given a half-day after noon.

People have been advised by authorities to avoid unnecessary travel, remain indoors unless for essential services, and follow official advisories as normal life remained disrupted in Mumbai and adjoining areas due to the heavy rainfall.

Mumbai rain LIVE: The Disaster Management Cell of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation was visited today by Shri Sachin Ahir, Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Council; Shri Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Minister of Skill, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation and Guardian Minister of Mumbai Suburban District; Deputy Mayor Shri Sanjay Ghadi; House Leader Shri Ganesh Khankar; and Group Leader Shri Amey Ghole.

The dignitaries reviewed the situation arising from the continuous heavy rainfall across the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation area. They also assessed the preparedness of all civic machinery in view of the rainfall forecast for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation area.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday said that the district administrations have been put on high alert amid heavy rains battering the state, and stated that the restoration work for the Mumbai-Pune Expressway is underway after the damage caused by the landslide.

Addressing a press conference in Mumbai, Fadnavis said that the Mumbai Metro and buses are operating normally, with a few disruptions in the local railway network.

The Chief Minister said, “We held a meeting of the Disaster Management today to review the situation. Mumbai has received one month's rain quota in just four days. BMC has continuously worked to ensure there is no waterlogging. Mumbai Metro train service is operating normally, while there are a few disruptions on the railway network. Buses too are operating normally.”

He said, “Yesterday, we experienced unprecedentedly strong and intense winds. This has led to the falling of nearly 300 trees yesterday. Winds of 50-70 kmph are expected to hit the city today. This is the reason we have declared work from home today and appealed to people not to step outside of their homes today. There is an alert for a cloudburst in the area between Nashik and Trimbakeshwar for tomorrow. NDRF and SDRF have been redeployed accordingly. Till July 8, the intensity of rains will remain high. District Administrations have been put on high alert. Efforts are underway to restore the Mumbai-Goa and Mumbai-Pune expressways. Three lanes of the Mumbai-Pune Highway are operational from Mumbai to Pune, and one lane is operational from Pune to Mumbai.”

Maharashtra is on high alert after heavy rainfall along with gusty winds, leading to flooding and landslides in various places.

According to Maharashtra CMO, Palghar and the Konkan region are also under a red alert for July 7; 500 citizens in Palghar are being moved to safer locations.

The CMO has advised pilgrims not to enter Alandi after all four bridges leading into Alandi were submerged due to flooding of the Indrayani River.

Mumbai rain LIVE: Heavy rain and severe waterlogging paralysed Western Railway operations on Monday, leaving more than 20 long-distance trains stranded across various stations in Mumbai and south Gujarat, as tracks remained submerged.

As more than 40 train services were affected by cancellations, diversions, and delays, railway authorities scrambled to assist stranded passengers and worked to restore connectivity on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad trunk route.

According to Western Railway officials, train services were severely hampered by waterlogging, particularly between the Vasai Road-Virar and Saphale-Palghar sections.

As of 1.50 pm, at least 22 long-distance trains were being regulated at various stations, including Virar, Vangaon, Palghar, Dahanu Road, and Valsad, they said.

Throughout the day, more than 40 services were impacted, with at least eight trains rescheduled, 10 cancelled, and several others diverted or short-terminated due to heavy rain, waterlogging and a landslide, a WR spokesperson said.

Mumbai weather LIVE: A ship got stranded around one kilometre away from Manori beach in north Mumbai on Monday amid very heavy rains, prompting local police to alert the Indian Coast Guard since the area is rocky and strong winds have made it unsafe for smaller vessels to approach it for relief operations, officials said.

The information about the stranded ship was received in the morning and, as per protocol, the Navy, ICG and other concerned maritime authorities were intimated about the situation, a Gorai police station official said.

"The ship is stalled around 1 kilometre away from Manori beach. The ship has dropped anchor and no untoward incident related to it has been reported," he added.

Authorities from maritime agencies are keeping close watch on the situation, the official said.

Local fishermen said the area is rocky and strong winds have made it unsafe for smaller vessels to venture towards the ship.
