After securing the silver (men’s) and bronze (women’s) in the team events, India assured themselves of six more medals in the 19th Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships at the Thyagaraj Stadium on Thursday.

Soumyajit Ghosh and Mouma Das had an impressive run as they defeated Yang Zi and Yu Mengyu of Singapore, 11-9, 11-6, 12-10 in the semifinals. But they struggled in the final against Zhan Jian and Zhou Jian, conceding the match 3-11, 13-15, 7-11 to the Singaporean pair.

Mouma’s performance was particularly impressive on the day. She entered the women’s singles finals by beating Joana Parker of England 3-1 and her partnership with K Shamini also worked well. The duo defeated Malaysia’s Lee Wei Beh and Sock Khim, 3-1 to enter the final. But again, Zhan Jian and Zhou Yihan, 3-11, 13-15, 7-11, ousted the Indian pairing.

The defending men’s doubles champions, Sharath Kamal and Subahajit Saha, also qualified for the semifinals. They were victorious against Onaolapo Ojo and Omotavo Olajide of Nigeria, and set up a final clash with Christopher Doran and Samuel Walker of England.

In other results, Neha Aggarwal and Madhurima Patkar scored a straight-sets victory over compatriots Divya Deshpande and Pooja Sahasrabudhe 12-10, 11-4, 11-3. Neha and Madhurika also qualified for their respective quarterfinals.
