India qualify for basketball group stage after beating Afghans

India came back strongly in the third and fourth quarters to beat Afghanistan 83-76 in a closely contested match to qualify for the group stage of basketball competition in the Asian Games here today.
India came back strongly in the third and fourth quarters to beat Afghanistan 83-76 in a closely contested match to qualify for the group stage of basketball competition in the Asian Games here today.
India were trailing 14-16 and 30-38 at the end of first and second quarters before staging a comeback.
They levelled the score at 53-53 at the end of the third quarter before running away 83-76 winners at the end of the fourth quarter.
India are now placed in Group F along with Qatar, Iran, Japan, Chinese Taipei and Philippines.
They take on Qatar tomorrow in their first group match.
