Indian men in recurve final

The Indian men's recurve team entered the final of the fourth leg of the World Cup in Shanghai on Friday. They will play Japan for the title on Saturday. Japan shocked world champions Korea 224-216 in the semi-final. HT reports.

The Indian men's recurve team entered the final of the fourth leg of the World Cup in Shanghai on Friday. They will play Japan for the title on Saturday. Japan shocked world champions Korea 224-216 in the semi-final.

The team comprising Jayanta Talukdar, Tarundeep Rai and Rahul Banerjee beat China 222-214 in the semi-final. The USA were tamed 225-208 in the round of eight, India avenging their loss in Ogden at the same stage.

Britain, a top team for the Commonwealth Games next month, was beaten 225-218.

The women's team though was shocked 212-213 by Japan in the first round.

Deepika Kumari, Laishram Bombayla Devi and Dola Banerjee, silver medallists at the last meet at Ogden, represented India.

In the compound section, the Indian men's team of C. Srither, Ch. Jagnas and Ritul Chatterjee lost 218-224 to Malaysia. The women, represented by Jhano Hansdah, Bheigyabati Chanu and Gagandeep Kaur, lost 218-226 to the USA in the quarter-finals.

They beat New Zealand 216-200 in the first round.

The mixed recurve team of Talukdar and Deepika, seeded third, was shocked by 14th seeds Mexico 142-145.

The mixed duo of Kh. Ratan Singh and Jhano Hansdah, ranked 10th, ousted Italy 153-151 but lost to USA in the compound section quarter-finals at 150-154.
