The pugilist representing Asia-I beat Europe-I’s boxer 6-4 at the inter-continental event where top eight boxers in each weight category qualify. With the win the boxer has assured a medal.

Leading from the first round, Manipur’s Suranjoy maintained the it till the end and will face America’s Braulio Avila in the semifinal.

Earlier, World Youth Champion Nanao Singh lost his opening bout to Luis Miguel Diaz of America-II by 5-8.

Vijender and Dinesh opted out because of injuries.
