'I was concerned about my parents'

As soon as the news of Sinha's release reached his uncle's house here, his family members rushed to the temple — their only resort for the last eight days.

His mother Manju Sinha, who suffered a heart attack on receiving the news of her only son's capture, was also there.

A large number of people gathered at his uncle's house to see him. He walked inside first for another round of prayers, before coming out to face the media. His parents had refused to talk to the media till he reached home.

Sinha and three other policemen — sub-inspectors Abhay Yadav and Lucas Tete and Havildar Ehsan Khan —were captured on August 29 in a gunfight with Maoists at Kajra Hills in Lakhisarai district, about 170 km from here.

Narrating the incident, he said the four of them were trapped in a bush, with constant firing from somewhere above them.

And once captured, "we were blindfolded. Our dresses were changed and mobiles taken away. We were not kept at one place. I was more concerned about my parents, as I am the only son".

On Tete's killing, Sinha said he was not aware of the incident. He also denied any knowledge about the self-proclaimed Maoist spokesman, Avinash, who often talked to the media.
