Kanpur: Armed group go on a robbing spree, loot about 12 passengers on 3 trains
Armed robbers struck three trains passing through the district, looting at least 12 passengers and assaulting those who resisted them in the wee hours on Wednesday.
Armed robbers struck three trains passing through Kanpur district early on Wednesday, looting at least 12 passengers and assaulting those who resisted before escaping.
According to the Government Railway Police (GRP), the robbers barged into the Mumbai-bound Lucknow-LTT Express and started looting passengers. When one of the passengers, Ramashankar Pandey, resisted the robbery bid, he was roughed up.
The accused then boarded the Vaishali Express and robbed passengers travelling in the sleeper class. Devi Singh, who was on his way to Gorakhpur, was also physically assaulted when he resisted the burglars.
The bandits then boarded the Lucknow-Kanpur passenger train, looting passengers, and beating up one more person.
The three assault victims were sent to the railways’ Kamla Nehru Hospital, one of who needed to be admitted be admitted in the hospital. The other two were discharged after first-aid was administered.
As the incident took place between Unnao and Kanpur districts, there was some confusion in deciding whose jurisdiction the case came under, before Kanpur GRP took up the matter
According to Kanpur GRP in-charge, Shyamvrat Yadav, 12 people were robbed during in the morning robbing spree.
An FIR was registered, he said, adding that the overall value of the robbery was yet to be ascertained.
