Nearly 50 armed Maoists stormed Bangalwa Kareli village, about 200 km from Patna, early on Saturday.

"Five people were killed on the spot while one sustained serious injuries and died later in a hospital," a police officer said.

Bihar Police chief Neelmani said a senior police official has gone to the village and police have begun search operations in Munger.

Security has been heightened in the village and top district officials are camping there.

Munger is considered a Maoist stronghold.
