In pics: 2-day Bharat Bandh begins, Bengal sees protests
A 2-day nationwide strike has been called by a joint forum of Central Trade Unions (today & tomorrow). The All India Bank employees association has pledged support to the pan-India strike against 'anti-worker, anti-farmer, anti-people & anti-national policies of the union govt'. The trade unions' statement said that roadways, transport workers and electricity workers will join the strike. The statement also said unions in the rail & defence sector would be making mass mobilization in support of the strike.

In West Bengal, government offices have been told to remain open. "It has been decided that no casual leave or any other leave for absence either in the first half or in the second half or for the whole day shall be granted to any employee on the above-mentioned dates (March 28-March 29)," a state government notification read.

About 20 crore protesters are expected to join the Bharat Bandh call. This is the first major protest that India is set to witness after assembly elections in five states.(ANI)
