Snacks and beverages maker PepsiCo India Holdings Pvt Ltd has decided to withdraw lawsuits it had filed against nine Gujarat farmers for allegedly growing a potato variety owned by the company without its permission. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the Centre has released more than Rs 1000 crore to the states facing the brunt of Cyclone Fani, and told all those affected that the entire country was with them. Modi, addressing an election rally in Rajasthan, said the Centre is in touch with governments in Odisha, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. (ANI)

Heavy rains battered several places in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh along the coast of Bay of Bengal as Cyclone Fani made landfall near Odisha’s Puri on Friday morning. Andhra Pradesh was spared the impact as the cyclone brushed past its coast before making landfall. Moderate to heavy rains, ranging from five to 19cm, accompanied with heavy gales lashed the coastal areas in Srikakulam district. (ANI)
