PHOTOS: Tourists rush to French Alps as France’s highest peak Mont Blanc reopens

In mid-June mainland France dubbed itself a 'green zone' and restrictions imposed on bars, restaurants, gatherings, outdoor trips began to ease. And like each summer, this year too, hordes of climbers, skiiers and tourists are heading to the picturesque peaks of the French Alps. Tourists were spotted wearing masks, practising social distancing as they posed in front of the Mont Blanc, Europe's highest peak, which attracts nearly 25,000 climbers every year. Chamonix-Mont-Blanc (also Chamonix) is a ski resort area which is situated near the junction between France, Switzerland and Italy. The little commune is at the base of the Mont Blanc as if best known for skiing. The cable cars take visitors to nearby peaks, offering panoramic views of the pristine white surroundings.
