“Many people had gathered at the accident spot. Even our vehicles could not move. 108 ambulances refused to take the body after the fatal accident. We called for two other ambulances and both of them got stuck in the traffic caused by the mob. We stopped a few rickshaw drivers but they also refused. Finally, we had to stop a private vehicle to take the body out,” said police sub inspector Arun Gaud who is investigating the case. “The bus had ran over the victim,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sonawane told the police that he did not knew about the accident until the passengers told him. However, he decided not to stop the bus and did not inform anyone about the accident.
The driver was booked under Sections 279 (rash driving on a public way), 304(a) (causing death due to negligence), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 184, 132(1)(c) and 119/177 of Motor Vehicle Act at Koregaon Park police station.
