350 mobile towers in PCMC are illegal, says civic official
Pravin Ashtekar, additional commissioner of PCMC, said, “At least 350 mobile towers are illegal, having dues worth Rs 22.43 crore in the form of property tax payable to the civic body. We will issue notices seeking clarification from the operators in the issue.”
At least 350 mobile towers installed in the Pimpri-Chinchwad industrial township are illegal, according to the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).
Pravin Ashtekar, additional commissioner of PCMC, said, “At least 350 mobile towers are illegal, having dues worth Rs 22.43 crore in the form of property tax payable to the civic body. We will issue notices seeking clarification from the operators in the issue.”
PCMC will be conducting a meeting with the respective mobile companies, heads of the property tax department, heads of building permission and road departments to solve the issue. The commissioner has asked the operators to regularise the towers by completing the necessary procedure.
If the mobile companies fail to pay dues in a stipulated time period, the civic chief is likely to instruct the building permission and road departments to not give road digging permission to these companies without getting a no objection certificate from the property tax department.
Ashtekar said, “Pimpri-Chinchwad is an industrial, automobile and information technology (IT) hub. Hence, mobile companies should cooperate with the municipal corporation and pay tax to the civic body.”
