61% residents pay property tax online in Pune Municipal Corporation

Taking benefit of the 5 to 10 per cent rebate scheme, 61 per cent Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) residents paid property tax online this year.
According to PMC, residents who pay property tax before May 31, 2019, will get a rebate of 10 and 5 per cent. The PMC colleted Rs 220 crore in tax collection till April 27, 2019, and it is expected that till May 31, 2019, it will collect Rs 700 crore, according to Vilas Kanade, head of PMC’s property tax department.
Those residents who pay property tax below Rs 25,000 per annum will get a 10 per cent rebate and those who pay above Rs 25,000 tax, will get 5 per cent rebate.
Kanade said, “PMC is getting a good response for the rebate scheme. Sixty one per cent citizens have paid tax online. Till April 27, 2019, the tax collection has been Rs 220 crore.”
Kanade said, “PMC is giving rebate on property tax if the residents pay tax in the first two months of the financial year. The tax amount helps to carry out infrastructure works in the city.”
Kanade said, “PMC has collected mobile numbers of at least 90 per cent of the taxpayers. The PMC is sending messages about property tax to residents along with the link to pay the tax online. So, residents are paying tax through their mobile phones.”
